Pediatric Oncology

Every year, more than 15,000 families across the U.S. receive the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. It remains the leading cause of death by disease for children ages 0–19. During this critical time, There With Care supports families—often for a full year—as they manage intensive treatments and medical appointments. We’ve supported more than 2,170 families over the past 20 years who have faced the unimaginable—a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Through essential programs that provide food security, transportation assistance, patient and family essentials, and home stability, we help ease the daily burdens families face—so they can focus on what matters most: caring for their child.

Families we support facing pediatric oncology:

In March 2011, the parents of four-year-old Laird noticed a small lump on his neck. A routine doctor’s visit turned into every parent’s nightmare: cancer. “It felt like the bottom fell out,” his mother recalled. Within days, Laird began five weeks of near-constant chemotherapy. One parent stayed by his hospital bed day and night, while the other tried to keep life steady for their seven-year-old daughter at home. The family was stretched thin—emotionally, physically, and financially. Hospital trips, nights apart, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead weighed heavily. The children felt the distance, the parents felt the pressure, and cancer touched every corner of their lives. Today, the family stands together—stronger than ever. Laird is cancer-free, thriving in college, and deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and community that carried them through their crisis. This is a family we serve.

At just two years old, Ariana was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. For more than seven months, she has endured an intense course of treatment. Her mom shares that Ariana is often afraid of the hospital and the procedures—but time and again, she meets each challenge with remarkable bravery and strength. During this same period, the family has faced job and financial changes, welcomed their fifth baby, and navigated the daily stresses of life turned upside down. Through it all, they have been deeply grateful for the care and support they’ve received. There With Care has been by their side with groceries, baby and household essentials, toiletries, toys, birthday gifts, and gas cards—relieving some of the burdens so they can focus on Ariana’s healing.

When Yazmyne was just 14, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. In the care of her grandmother, Jacque, she faced nearly a year of grueling treatments and many difficult days. The emotional and physical toll was compounded by financial strain—Jacque struggled to keep her job while balancing the demands of caring for her granddaughter. There With Care stepped in to help ease that burden, providing rent assistance, holiday meals and gifts, gas cards, birthday surprises, restaurant gift cards, and more. These acts of care not only relieved some of the financial stress but also gave Jacque the most precious gift of all—more time to be by Yazmyne’s side. This is a family we serve.

Over the past twenty years, we have thoughtfully refined our care and delivery system to best support parents and caregivers during a fragile and often overwhelming time.
